In the ancient Norse culture, the Berserker was a terrifying spectacle, whereupon a warrior would channel the energy, ferocity and strength of a bear and then unleash that fury on upon their foe. The word berserk is derived from this tradition, and in old Norse berserkir translates as bear-coat, literally to become a bear.
