Penannular brooches, often called cloak pins or even Celtic clasps, are so named because of how they form an incomplete ring. Extremely handy, stylish, and in use since man first worked metal, these pins are great for re-enactors of all time periods, especially Celts and Vikings.

Penannular brooches feature a long pin attached by its head to a ring; the pin can move freely around the ring as far as the terminals, which are close together. The penannular type is a simple and efficient way of fastening loosely woven cloth (where the pin will not leave a permanent hole).  The small cloak pin here is great for light cloaks, scarves, skirts and kilts, or even for the throat clasp of a tunic. Hand forged from steel and measuring about 2 inches by 1.5 inches (5cm by 4cm).
